As part of a retrospective in 2010, renowned performance artist Marina Abramović famously presented a 736-hour-and-30-minute piece called The Artist Is Present, in which she remained seated at a table in New York City's Museum of Modern Art, inviting spectators to come and sit opposite her. On opening night, her fellow performance artist and former significant other Frank Uwe Laysiepen (stage name Ulay) surprised her. The pair hadn't seen one another since they ended their love affair in the '70s in most dramatic fashion — by walking the length of China's Great Wall and meeting in the middle for a final embrace. Ulay's unexpected appearance at Abramović's performance in 2010 marked the first time the pair had seen one another in over 30 years. Drama, y'all.
Well, the brand-new video for local electro-popsters How I Became the Bomb's "Ulay, Oh" — as well as the song itself — tells the story of Abramović and Ulay's reunion. “I was fortunate enough to wander into the MoMA just in time for The Artist Is Present," HIBTB frontman Jon Burr writes in the video's description field. "Equal parts unsettling, absurd, and profound; I couldn't shake the experience. Later, I stumbled onto the video wherein Ulay and Marina reunite and was overwhelmed with only one sentiment: This is a song.” Watch the video above and feel all of the feelings. As we pointed out just two weeks ago, the Bomb will return with their first new release in five years, the Adonis EP, on Nov. 4. They're offering a free stream of Adonis' three gloriously sparkling, synthesizer-ensconced mega-pop tunes via their Soundcloud page, and you can hear those after the jump.
