1998 documentary profile of country singer Mindy McCready. Also features Reba McIntyre and Tammy Wynette with a small cameo by actor Dean Cain
After hearing the news of
Mindy McCready's death by apparent suicide, I was reminded of a pretty great 1998 Bravo Profiles three-part series, Naked Nashville, which followed the paths of a few up-and-coming country stars and folks struggling in the trenches. McCready's then-flourishing career is one of the series' main story threads.
McCready's tumultuous personal life made her the butt of jokes and a frequent tabloid subject, but the above clip is pretty poignant in retrospect, revealing just how young, vulnerable and fragile she was as she tried to negotiate the life of a rising country star, as a 21-year-old from a broken home. It's easy to spot the seeds of her demise, but that makes it no less heartbreaking.
