It's Friday, it's cold, it's rainy. Good vibes are at a low ebb, and we all just want to punch the clock and get to partying. This winter-weather bullshit is for the birds, and beer o'clock can't arrive soon enough. But there's a silver lining! This weekend, The Boom Bap — the venerable classic-hip hop monthly that I'm sure you're all fans of — celebrates its fifth anniversary, and they are bringing the legendary DJ Nu-Mark to town.
Oh look, some sexy, intelligent critic wrote a pick about it:
What in the huh? Five years? No, that can’t be. There’s no way in hell five years could have passed since DJ Rate, Case and the Crew popped off this classic hip-hop monthly at The Blue Bar. We refuse to believe it — time is not flying by, and we are not about to put the “old” in old-school. But then again, we’re not against waving our hipster cards in your face and reminiscing about the days when Coolout was behind the decks and nobody outside of the 615 area code had ever heard of The 5 Spot. But we’re not going to do that, because it would involve admitting a degree of culpability in this whole “progression of time” thing. And that didn’t happen — it’s still the Bush era, this beer gut is a figment of your imagination, and we’re still young and beautiful.
OK, now it's time to hit the concrete streets and revel in the genius of Nu-Mark ...
