(C) 2019 Third Man Records

A little over a month ago, The Raconteurs made a strong return to the stage at Third Man Records’ 10th anniversary party, marking the start of a tour for Help Us Stranger, their third album and first new LP since 2008. Now, with the record’s release about a month away on June 21, the group has dropped a curious video for the almost-titular track "Help Me Stranger."

Yasuhiko Shimizu directed the piece, in which the camera follows the band from a practice space to several other locations around Kimitsu, Japan, a city near Tokyo known for its heavy industry. On first glance, it appears that the video is mostly about Jack White, Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler arranging themselves in artful ways and turning suddenly to acknowledge the camera as the funky tune unfolds. But on a repeat watch, each scene feels something like a painting or photograph coming suddenly and eerily to life. There’s also a bit with an infant who may or may not be able to shift between dimensions.

Check it out above, and visit the Third Man Records site or your favorite record store for details on preordering the album. The Racs will be back in Nashville on Aug. 29, 30 and 31, and tickets are available at those links.
