As spring has turned to summer, I’ve slowly started spending time with groups of people again. No matter how many people I’m with, I feel like I’m constantly being reminded of how much I missed that feeling. If the same thought has occurred to you recently, then posi-vibing rock ’n’ roll megaband Tayls’ latest music video may just hit you right in the ol’ feels.

“Have You Ever?” is the latest single and almost-titular track from the group’s forthcoming LP Have You Ever? I’ve Always. In a release, frontman Taylor Cole describes the upbeat dance-march as a “huge love song to our band.” We’ve all got that pal or pals who’s positive and friendly in an intense way, that’s almost aggressive but remains endearing. Here’s a collective expression from a whole bunch of those folks who happen to make up Tayls. “I will always love you,” they sing, “I will be your kind / Sing with me forever / You’re the best part of my mind.”

Even though Cole’s name is part of the group name and he’s the de facto frontman, the magic comes from the way they work as a unit. They learned a lot more about how to do that work as they worked on the album in Memphis with Jake Ingalls from The Flaming Lips and Calvin Lauber, who’s best known for his work with Julien Baker. Cole knew he wanted to do something with the visual treatment for the track that emphasized the group dynamic.

“I wanted people to see just how lovely they all are, and how special we are together,” says Cole. “I want you to watch this video and wanna be a part of whatever it is we are doing. Like, 'Fuck! I wanna hang with these weirdos!' ”

To that end, director Houston Matthews and director of photography Jacob Anderson followed the 10-person Tayls unit, decked out with some skates from Chattanooga's Moonlight Roller, to Rivergate Skate Center to make the video for “Have You Ever?” Today, we’re very pleased to premiere the fruit of their labor, a Technicolor roller rink invasion that’s extremely inviting after many months of pandemic-imposed isolation. Check it out above, and visit Tayls’ website and follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for more on the record. Tayls is set to play The Basement East on July 30, release day for Have You Ever? I’ve Always, with support from Nordista Freeze and Namir Bladeadvance tickets are $12 for the 18-and-up show.
