Pull Up for Jack White's Parking Lot Purgatory Shows

Free daytime gigs with locals like Soot, massie99 and a Third Man tribute to Glenn Danzig set to precede White's shows at The Truth

Friendly neighborhood rock star Jack White is making a hometown stop at The Truth Oct. 9 and 10 on his tour for Frozen Charlotte, the ripper of a new record he released in July. In case you missed it amid the hustle and bustle of AmericanaFest, the Nashville HQ of his label Third Man Records is making the occasion a kind of block party/tailgate affair — a pair of free hangout events called Jack White’s Parking Lot Purgatory.

On Oct. 9, the throwdown is in the parking lot of Third Man Records (623 Seventh Ave. S.) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the bill consists of Not of This World (don’t tell your mother, but the tagline “The Third Manzig Experience” tells you what to expect here) and heavy-rockin’ outfit Soot. On Oct. 10, the party moves to the parking lot of the historic United Record Pressing building at 456 Chestnut St. — right across the street from The Truth, which is set to open Oct. 1 — from 2 to 5:30 p.m. The three-band bill features CableTV (a relatively new group featuring longtime rocker-about-town Jacob Corenflos), hardcore outfit Heartattack and multi-faceted, somewhat Pen15-coded rock trio massie99.

Hat tip to WNXP’s Celia Gregory for the on-air reminder today, paired with the appropriate choice of Frozen Charlotte track, “Neighbors Blues.” (That’s the one with the blown-out organ intro from Bobby Emmett and the dot-dash groove that reminds me of both the long and “Slight Return” versions of Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile.”)
