Last year during CMA Fest, Origins Music Group and the Country Latin Association teamed up on an event called Country con Corazón, which showcased Latino country artists in the heart of South Nashville at Plaza Mariachi. With the call continuing to get louder for broader and better representation of artists from all communities, those two organizations have joined forces with the National Museum of African American Music and the Hispanic Entertainment Alliance to set up the inaugural OMG Block Party at Plaza Mariachi this weekend.
Talking with Angie K and Andrea Vasquez about supporting Latino musicians around the world
The event is free, open to all ages and runs in two phases — noon to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to an end time TBD — on Saturday, June 6. There’ll be food trucks, a community marketplace and a kids’ zone, as well a kaleidoscopic array of music with many locals in the mix. The bill includes country songsmiths like Pynk Beard, Reyna Roberts and Country Latin Association founders Angie K and Andrea Vasquez. (We’d recommend her work regardless, but we need to disclose that Vasquez also works in the sales department of the Scene’s parent company FW Publishing.) Blues-rocker Buddy Red and deft rapper Qualls are also part of the lineup along with a ton of others.
RSVP via the Origins Music Group website and keep an eye on the Instagram profiles of Origins as well as the Country Latin Association for more.
