Nordista Freeze's Space Prom 3 Is Headed Back to the ’80s

With an infectious psychedelic pop sound and a famously (maybe even a little notoriously) energetic stage presence, Nordista Freeze has become a force to be reckoned with in Nashville’s underground scene. He’s made himself known for bringing together some of the best, brightest and weirdest of Nashville’s up-and-coming artists with Freezefest, his annual DIY festival. He’s also put together another yearly party: The third running of Space Prom promises an out-of-this-world tribute to the ’80s this Saturday, Jan. 25, at The Basement East.

The high-school-dance-turned-intergalactic-party will feature Freeze and his band performing disco-pop covers from the decade. Expect appearances from special guests like local rocker Briston Maroney, Arlie frontman Nathaniel Banks and singer-songwriter Savannah Conley, along with many more of Freeze’s friends and collaborators. The idea is to carry over the best things from your end-of-school dance, but with a twist: The Facebook event page encourages concertgoers to “Wear what you would wear to prom, if prom was held in the ’80s on Mars.”

The show kicks off at 9 p.m. Saturday, with doors opening at 8. Advance tickets are available here for $17, or for $20 at the door, but you may want to grab a spot now, since last year’s Space Prom sold out at Mercy Lounge.

To get psyched up, look below for a video of Freeze and band performing “Hey Gigi” from his 2017 album Cosmic Haus. The clip was filmed by Preston Dunnavant at Charleston, S.C.’s Cannon Park.
