As many businesses and public spaces remain closed in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, the live entertainment economy has ground to a halt. While livestreams can't replace going out to a show (economically or otherwise), they're a great way for artists to raise funds to help replace lost income from canceled tours or to support important causes. Just as importantly, streams let musicians carry on the important work of connecting with an audience. In that spirit, we at the Scene have launched No-Contact Shows, our very own streaming performance series.

For our 22nd installment, we're very pleased to present something a little different from Flummox. The art-metal outfit has recorded a live-in-studio set for us, which premieres in the above YouTube embed at 2 p.m. Back in the spring, the group participated in the Nashville Song Swap, in which more than a dozen local bands were assigned a different band from within the group to cover. Flummox covered The Blam Blams' "Isabella," a song from the glam-rockers' forthcoming LP Opening Night. It's a great fit — even though the bands don't sound much alike, both have a knack for theatrical flair, and both examine gender identity and queerness in their work. Flummox's recent single "Trans Girls Need Guns," released in June on the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, protests violence against transgender people in a harrowing blast of thrash metal with tinges of hardcore punk and jazzy prog.

See Flummox's performance above this afternoon, and keep an eye on their Bandcamp profile, Instagram and Facebook for updates.
