Dreamer Boy at Swan Dive in Austin, Texas, 3/16/2019
Singer and songwriter Zach Taylor and his production partner Bobby Knepper came rocketing out of the gate in late 2018 with Love, Nostalgia, their debut album of swoon-y, melancholy, electronically enhanced pop under the name Dreamer Boy. They scored something of an internet hit with the single “Falling for the Wrong One,” which has been streamed more than 1.8 million times on Spotify. One impressive statistic doesn’t make them into stars, but if the duo’s music is up your alley, there’s a decent chance that you’ve heard the single.
But it’s also possible that you saw their name and thought: “Who’s that?” They opened a leg of a tour for indie-pop rising star Still Woozy that included a sold-out Mercy Lounge gig in January, and a performance in March was a highlight of contributor Lance Conzett’s trip to SXSW. Still, like many outstanding Nashville pop acts, they haven’t built their fan base with tons and tons of shows around town, as rock bands tend to do.
That makes it extra notable that you’ll have a chance to see Dreamer Boy Wednesday night when they play the Belcourt. (The theater has long been a home for a variety of arts programming, but that was recently highlighted in a cool mini-doc by The Criterion Collection.) The show kicks off at 9 p.m., and tickets are $15. To get prepared, take a look below at the music videos for “Falling for the Wrong One” and “Simple.”
We were on tour with The Maria's in Joshua Tree and decided to wander off into the desert to shoot this little one take for “Falling for the Wrong One” - honestly we had planned on making this video a big production with a story and all that but something about this setting seemed right and we had so much fun shooting it. Hope you enjoy it too... also yeehaw.

Summer always had simple beginnings. It wasn’t until you were drowning in it that you realized the weight of it all. So this song is the representation of that naive start to the period of time that the album is about. The video we put together for the song also does a good job representing the youthful nature of the song. “I still have some growing up to do” is something that I feel will always ring true no matter where I am in life, but we wanted this video to feel like a classic summer day as a kid — along with some of these ideas of getting along because at the end of the day love is simple. The mirrored verse from Savanna also allow for the perspective to be switched back at myself, and she’s in a sense teaching me the same lesson before the hook hits again. We filmed this video at our house and at locations no less than a mile from our house, it does represent us well and I am super happy with the way it turned out. The euphoric skies in the film are to enforce this idea of dreaming, nostalgia and it honestly just looks how the song feels to me. This is the second video we’ve done for Love, Nostalgia and so far I think we’ve done a good job at capturing what each song feels like internally and having something to show for it externally is a bonus.
