After much speculation, the news is official: Bonnaroo will not return in 2027.
The festival announced plans for a “much-needed year off” on social media Friday morning, citing ongoing improvements to the campground and Centeroo as well as “limited time to recuperate from back to back years of storms.”
“This wasn’t an easy decision, and not one we take lightly, but in our hearts, we know this break will only make Bonnaroo better,” reads the online statement.
Bonnaroo has had a rough couple of years. The 2026 festival was impacted by rain delays on its final day, while Bonnaroo 2025 was canceled entirely following heavy rainfall on the first day of performances, leading to the nickname “Bummeroo.”
Organizers cite Friday downpours and weekend forecast in decision to call off the remainder of the festival
After the festival’s uncharacteristic delay in sharing next year’s dates, fans in recent weeks speculated online about whether Bonnaroo 2027 would happen. On Thursday night, the anonymous music festival watchdog Festive Owl addressed the rumors, promising “some clarity and further details” on X.
“There will be a million and one explanations for how and why we got here,” reads a Festive Owl thread posted to X Friday morning, after the release of Bonnaroo’s statement. Festive Owl cites the changing festival market and speculates about the potential for a restorative “fallow year” — a strategy notably employed by British festival Glastonbury.
“It gives everyone involved a chance to reset, gives the talent pool time to grow ... and gives the land itself time to physically recover and receive improvements,” they explain.
