While the conditions that seemingly make it more difficult than ever to operate an independent music venue have not changed, one piece of Nashville’s indie venue ecosystem is holding fast. Venerable show space 3rd and Lindsley, in operation in the same former restaurant just south of Broadway since 1991, has signed a new five-year lease extension.
Word came in 2022 that a construction project that would displace the venue was in the planning stages. In the fall, that project was scrapped, but the ultimate future of 3rd and Lindsley — a favorite of singer-songwriters as well as the broadcast site for the long-running Lightning 100 radio program Nashville Sunday Night — was not clear. Now, venue owner Ron Brice and his crew are looking at expanded offerings, including a new Thursday afternoon series called Bluegrass on 3rd that starts in July, and making plans for a 35th anniversary celebration in February.
“This place is more than a venue — it’s an integral piece of Nashville’s live music ecosystem, providing a home for artists, fans and our amazing team,” Brice says in a release. “We want the community to know we’re not going anywhere, we’re doubling down on what it means to be an independent venue in today’s Nashville. This lease is a promise — to our incredible musician family, to the fans who’ve created countless memories in our room and to the next generation coming up.”
