Krautrocking Nashvillians Faux Ferocious set a high bar for themselves in the spring with their LP Pretty Groovy. The band works as hard at wrestling with contemporary troubles in their lyrics on the album as they do with making an enticing, hard-driving, perception-altering soundscape.
They're parlaying that persistence into even bigger things. Near the beginning of August, they announced that they've signed with Danger Mouse's 30th Century Records. Their first release is to be a 7-inch produced by The Black Keys' Patrick Carney, who's been very busy producing topflight work like Jessy Wilson's Phase and *repeat repeat's Glazed.
Today, we're very pleased to premiere a track from the 7-inch called "Good Times Ahead." As explained in a statement attributed to the whole group, the track — whose groove blends Devo-esque nerviness with Afrobeat-esque syncopation — takes a look at the dangers of charismatic media figures operating unchecked.
“This song is about the alienating effects of intentionally misleading entertainment radio news," says the group, "and the pseudo-scientific elixirs often touted by the personalities who represent these outlets and profit from selling them.”
Give "Good Times Ahead" a spin below, and see the group in person on Saturday at Soft Junk before they head out on tour. Below that, take a look at the music video for the Pretty Groovy track "Price of Progress," in case you missed Post-Trash's premiere.
