Earlier this year, critically beloved local guitarist — and co-owner of local restaurant-slash-rock club, The Stone Fox —
William Tyler reissued his Deseret Canyon via Merge Records. The record was originally released in 2008, back when Tyler was calling his solo project The Paper Hats. Among the tracks on Deseret is "The Sleeping Prophet," a pleasant, largely acoustic six-and-a-half-minute exploration.
In celebration of Deseret Canyon's Merge re-release under the William Tyler moniker, Willy T. has released a new video for "The Sleeping Prophet," which debuted today via NPR. The video was directed by Tyler's sister — and Stone Fox co-proprietor — Elise Tyler, with additional help from other local filmmakers, including James Teninty, Dustin Lane, Garland Gallaspy and Daniel Henry. The video (watch above) follows a day in the life of Willy T. Watch as the guitarist wakes up, makes some eggs (hey, I have that Infinity Cat mug, too!), pumps iron, gets his nails did, hangs at Betty's with his former Character bandmate Luke Schneider, plays some tunes and soaks in some local color.
It's just about the most beautifully shot depiction of Old Nashville you're liable to see all day — I mean, unless you watch Robert Altman's Nashville tonight or something. Loads of gorgeous, wide tracking shots. Give it a look.
