Edgefield's steak sandwich
The building at 921 Woodland St. — which has long been home to colorful watering hole Edgefield Sports Bar and Grill, and which went up for sale last year — has sold to a Nashville-based real estate investor group at a price tag of $1.3 million. But it doesn’t look like the beloved, smoky East Side hole-in-the-wall is going anywhere. At least not yet.
The investor group, which is made up of McClain Towery and Elliott Kyle, intends to rent out the roughly 6,000-square-foot space on the building's lower level, beneath the bar business. “The space has basically sat vacant,” Kyle tells the Scene. “We dug into it a bit and realized that it would make a really cool office-type of use. We’ve got a tenant lined up for it.” Kyle declined to say who that tenant will be.
And as for the bar itself? “We inherited the property with [Edgefield Sports Bar and Grill] still having a few years left on its lease,” says Kyle. “When [the] lease is up in a few years, we’ll all collectively evaluate what’s best for Edgefield and what’s best for the property. … Edgefield isn’t going anywhere. We bought the building with Edgefield there, and Edgefield isn’t going anywhere right now.”
“Don’t feel like you have to go to Edgefield next week because it’s going to be out of business soon — I’m happy to dispel that notion,” Kyle continues. “We bought it because it’s a great tenant and a great building, and at some point we’ll have options to re-evaluate what the highest and best use is for everybody.”
So for the time being, fans of Edgefield's darts and pool table, of vinyl nights and of that gloriously greasy steak sandwich pictured over there on the right — you guys can rest easy.
