Last week,
Bites reportedthat chef Jamie Watson had closed his
Cafe Fundamentalin East Nashville for an "indefinite hiatus" while Watson works on some health issues, and also prepares to open a bakery this summer and another planned restaurant at Marathon Village.
Now Watson tells us the "indefinite" closure verbage he used was probably a little too pessimistic. Rather, he says, he and his team are striving to reopen "sooner rather than later."
In addition, he stresses that his series of cooking classes will continue, and that Cafe Fundamental plans to honor all existing coupons that customers may have.
Meanwhile, Watson says the French bakery remains on track to open in July at 1404c McGavock Pike, in the former home of Olive and Sinclair in Riverside Village. "It's a great space," he says, and adds that he's looking forward to selling artisanal bread and other treats to folks in the neighborhood. (Watson also mentioned that the name previously announced for he bakery, Palmier, may be subject to change before the launch.)
We look forward to more news later this summer.
