West Nashville Pickup Dining: Tinwings and Martha Stamps' New Bergamot Market

While East Nashville and Germantown are bursting at the seams with hip restaurants, West Nashville has many of its own, as well as a healthy number of catering businesses that help busy folks have great food at home. Corner Market Catering has been serving the busy families of Belle Meade and West Meade for years, most recently from its location on Hillwood near Nashville West. Last year, Tinwings popped up in the Nations on 51st Avenue North with a similar concept serving clients in the growing Nations and Sylvan Park areas. With a focus on local produce and local food, Tinwings offers a rotating menu of weekly meals for pickup or delivery as well as a limited number of dishes for grab-and-go at their market.

How local is the food? So local that they even feature recipes from the cookbooks of local authors on a regular basis. I found out about Tinwings from author Nicki Pendleton Wood, who will have a recipe from her book, Southern Cooking for Company featured this week (the book is also available for sale through Tinwings). Tinwings is run by longtime food professional and Nashville native Lee Ann Merrick and her business partner Ursula Norris. In addition to prepared foods and cookbooks, the store also features a goods for sale by local artists and artisans.

Between Meades and the Nations, prominent chef Martha Stamps (previously of Martha’s at the Plantation) has set up a new location at 336 White Bridge Road near Charlotte Pike. The building that formerly housed a Mediterranean restaurant and Pig and Pie is now the home of Bergamot Market, Stamps’ new catering business that also focuses on freshly prepared foods made with seasonal produce from local farms.

Stamps moved into the building a few months ago after leaving the kitchen at West End United Methodist Church. She and her staff have been working to get the space ready to have customers pick up orders (as well as grab-and-go and perhaps dine-in at a later time), and they expect it will be ready in mid-May. In the meantime, you can find out what Bergamot is serving each week by visiting the website or signing up for the weekly email.
