Already open in Germantown at 603 Taylor St., Steadfast Coffee is quickly earning a reputation as a new neighborhood favorite. Co-founders Nathanael Mehrens, Sean Stewart and Jamie Cunningham have all worked in the coffee business around town and have come together to share their vision of a comfortable gathering space where guests can enjoy their takes on traditional coffee drinks.
Items include "flash-chilled coffee" and what they are calling "rested" drinks that sit in the fridge overnight to develop richer flavors. A rested butterscotch latte is a highlight of that portion of the menu.
The trio has also enlisted talented chef Julia Sullivan to create a menu of seasonal food that is available all day long. They are offering dishes like a savory breakfast porridge and specials such as roasted beets with escarole, pork scratchings and creamy grana padano dressing to encourage diners to visit beyond the normal coffee-drinking hours. And there's more than just coffee to drink at Steadfast, with a variety of craft beers and sparkling wine on tap plus wines by the glass. Steadfast also plans to begin roasting their own coffee later this summer.
To formally introduce themselves to the neighborhood, Steadfast Coffee is planning a big block party 1 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, July 11. The official invitation promises: "In addition to delicious food, coffee, beer and wine from Steadfast, the patio will play host to a DJ, games supplied by redpepper, cocktails by The Mountain Agency, snacks by Rolf & Daughters, as well as a presence by Nisolo, Peter Nappi, Wilder Shop and more." Consider dropping by to welcome Steadfast to the neighborhood.
