Kroger is taking over all of Nashville's Harris Teeter grocery stores, closing three temporarily and one permanently, Bites' colleagues at
the Nashville Post report.
Kroger's parent company acquired the parent of Harris Teeter in July 2013 for $2.4 billion (initially pledging to keep the Harris Teeter brand alive in Nashville). The Harris Teeter store in the redeveloped Belle Meade Theater complex closed permanently in February. In a release today, Kroger says it will also shut down the Harris Teeter at the Highway 70-100 split for good.
Meanwhile, these stores will close temporarily around June 15 for conversion to Kroger:
• Hillsboro Village at 21st Avenue South and Blair Boulevard, which is scheduled to reopen in January.
• Westhaven Town Center in Franklin, which is slated to reopen around Thanksgiving of this year.
• Peartree Village in Brentwood, which will be closed for approximately one year for a major remodel.
Harris Teeter employs 335 people at the four locations, and the company says it began informing them of the store closings today.
“Harris Teeter associates are among the best in the grocery business,” Melissa Eads, spokeswoman for Kroger's Nashville division, says in the release. “We welcome them to apply for opportunities to join our great team of Kroger associates in Nashville. Kroger continues to grow in Nashville, and we look forward to serving more customers in more locations in the coming months.”
Though Harris Teeter is exiting the Nashville market, the North Carolina-based chain says it will continue its operations in other cities.
