I admit that I'm a fan of the CBS show Undercover Boss. While I can't believe that after six seasons any employee doesn't see through the ruse of being filmed while they work with a supposed contestant on some reality game show and doesn't notice that it's their boss wearing a bad wig and a Hawaiian shirt, I do like the payoff (literally) at the end of the show when the CEOs lavish their employees with gifts and cash.
Tonight at 7, Undercover Boss has a local connection as Gina Butler, the founder of Gigi's Cupcakes, dons a dark wig and some clunky glasses to work incognito at different jobs in her chain of cupcake bakeries (now more than 100 franchises). According to her blog post, Butler takes shifts working in the bakery, decorating cupcakes with Gigi's signature frosting swirl and spending time in customer service.
Since starting out with a $100,000 loan to open her first location in Nashville in 2008, Butler's company has maintained rapid growth with 25 more franchises on the drawing board for this year, and recently opened the first international location in South Korea. She participated in Undercover Boss to get a behind-the-scenes look at her growing operations.
An ex-country music singer, Butler should be comfortable on the stage, so it could make for some good television. Tune in tonight and take a look at this preview if you want a taste of what's planned.
