Longtime Nashvillians will fondly remember The Corner Market, the friendly place with outstanding takeout and dine-in that operated for 15 years on Highway 100 near the split and was sort of Nashville's version of Silver Palate.
It eventually expanded to a Green Hills location, but then both locations abruptly closed in 2004 under a new owner. The closure left a big gap — everyone was sad to lose this great place to meet for lunch or pick up dinner. Proprietor and chef Emily Frith continued to cater from a private kitchen and continued to make and sell her famous sesame salad dressing. Devotees could find it at markets here and there.
I ran into Jim Frith at The Produce Place — standing around and chatting with him and Produce Place owner Barry Burnette was a journey back to happy food times in 1996. Anyway, Corner Market entrees and salads have been available for purchase at The Produce Place for some time, thank goodness, because picking up a chicken casserole is a quick, reliable dinner.
And happily, the Friths have reopened a little retail business out west on Hillwood Boulevard.
