Raw zucchini and roasted almond salad last night at Adele's
Jonathan Waxman, the nationally known chef-owner of the popular
Barbutoin New York (and participant on Top Chef Masters), quietly opened the doors to his new Nashville restaurant,
Adele's, Wednesday night.
Adele's, named after Waxman's mother, takes over a former automotive garage at 1210 McGavock St. just off the Gulch. His partners in the project are restaurateur Howard Greenstone and Nashville music-biz veteran Ken Levitan, who manages Kings of Leon. (Waxman previously teamed with Levitan and the band to help launch what was initially called Music City Eats and is returning in September as the Music City Food + Wine Festival.)
Last night's kickoff was characterized as a soft opening, but Adele's is taking reservations on Open Table.
The restaurant's renovated space is bright and airy, with exposed brick and garage doors that can roll up when the weather cooperates. There's also a small patio.
The open kitchen includes a wood-fired oven, which yields several roasted items on the menu. Adele's is initially offering a limited menu, and the bar is currently serving beer and soft drinks only, pending the final liquor license.
Fans of Barbuto will be especially interested in the JW Chicken entree, roasted chicken similar to what Waxman serves in New York. Last night it came with curly endive and poblano chili sauce, which was studded with flavorful roasted cherry tomatoes. Also delivering good, fresh flavors was a salad of thinly sliced raw zucchini and yellow squash topped with almonds.
Check out a picture of last night's menu after the jump. In addition to expanding in the coming weeks, the menu is subject to change daily to accommodate fresh seasonal ingredients.
