True love is when your significant other lets you have the last fry from the Hot Diggity Dogs bag. But those perfectly crisped, perfectly salted strips of potato with the skin on the ends are just the tip of the iceberg that is the menu at Layla Vartanian and Gayle Davis’ tiny and much-loved spot just south of Broadway, also well-known for its mouthwatering Italian beef sandwich and for importing Vienna brand wieners from the Windy City to make its Chicago dog the most authentic in town. There are far spicier options than the Nashville dog, which comes with a healthy dollop of sweet slaw piled atop yellow mustard, crisp slices of raw cuke and white onion, and a thinly sliced bun-length strip of pickle (toppings that also nicely complement hot chicken, hence the name). But there’s something uniquely satisfying about the sweet-savory balance, especially if you get the meat charbroiled. And even if you only have a Hamilton on you, you’ve still got plenty for a fountain drink ($1.69), a sack of those heavenly fries and a tip.
