For those of us living on the East Side, we know our sushi options well — Two Ten Jack for the really good stuff, with cheaper options including Koi and relative newcomers Sushi Circle and Maru. But a solid standby is Nomzilla on Gallatin Avenue, and its weekday happy-hour menu is about the best deal you’ll find in the sushi game. From 3-6 p.m. and again 9-10 p.m. on weekdays, the restaurant offers a discounted menu with a pretty impressive spread of options. The menu includes $2.50 hot-chicken bao buns, seaweed and house salads at $3, several sushi rolls for $4, a $5 wing plate, $7 seared tuna and a handful of drink specials (including a sake bomb for $4!). My move: Start with the surprisingly impressive and delicious hot-chicken bao and a house salad, then add a sushi roll of your choosing (my preference is the spicy tuna). That’ll keep your total at just $9.50 with plenty of food to fill you up. But you don’t have to go with my combo — hit Nom on a weeknight and come up with your own go-to mix-and-match.
