Barcelona, the beautiful and spacious wine bar in Edgehill Village, has been open a little more than two years, and it boasts a mighty “Social Hour” menu. Among the Social Hour offerings (served Monday through Friday, 4-6 p.m.) is the standout Sherry Fresca, which features La Cigarrera Manzanilla and costs just $6.
I previously didn’t know much (OK, anything) about sherry, but I liked this particular wine’s somewhat salty, briny flavor. The folks at Barcelona explain that Manzanilla is a type of fino sherry popular in Southern Spain — a “sipped-style” drink often mixed with soda or citrus. The Sherry Fresca’s fresh-squeezed lemon juice is sweet but not overly tart, well-balanced and plenty refreshing. Lavender bitters add a subtle floral aroma, while black pepper is ground on top of the ice, giving the drink a hint of spice and texture. A sprig of rosemary tops the whole thing, leaving you with a cocktail that would be perfect for sipping on a patio — or for enjoying while you’re fantasizing about patio weather.
Make a night out of it — Barcelona’s Social Hour also includes a list of $4 tapas, which can make quite a feast for those looking to try out a bit of luxury on a budget.
