We’ve reached the time of the summer where any high schoolers in your household might be whining about summer reading, but Puckett’s has decided to concentrate instead on summer feeding — they just launched a summer meal program in cooperation with Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee.
The family-owned restaurant group is reaching out to groups near their many locations including Boys & Girls Clubs, Hendersonville's Parks & Recreation Program and the City of Cullman Parks & Recreation Program to provide breakfasts and lunches during June and July as part of the pop-up program. Through their efforts, Puckett’s has helped to feed children from Middle Tennessee to East Tennessee to North Alabama. In the current political environment where food benefits are under attack and future food security can be a stressful prospect, it’s nice to see a local company giving back!
Speaking of stress, Nashville-based mocktail brand Better Than Booze would like to offer a nonalcoholic method of lowering your anxiety level — a free Mocktails, Mindfulness & Mother Nature event on Sunday, July 27, at Bledsoe Creek State Park about an hour from downtown Nashville near Castalian Springs. The event will start at 9 a.m. with free mocktails and the chance to meet your fellow participants followed by a guided sound bath, which is like washing your brain with soothing sounds of gongs, bells, chimes and singing bowls.
Once your busy mind has calmed down a bit, local hiking guide @AshleyAbAdventures will lead a trail walk to help connect you with nature. The event is free, but participants will be encouraged to donate to support Bledsoe Creek State Park and the Trust for Public Land.
