After several months without a home, gay bar Trax will set up shop in a new space in Wedgewood-Houston — and not far from its previous location.Â
The bar has been operating out of the former The Tea Room space at 1249 Martin St. informally for about a week, owner Steven Kiss tells Scene sister publication the Nashville Post, with plans to rename the space slated for completion in January.Â
South Nashville bar to cease operations at end of Pride Month after losing lease; owner seeking new space
Trax closed its former location at 1501 Ensley Blvd. (also known as 303 Bianca Paige Way) at the end of June after more than 15 years of operations, when the building owner terminated the business's lease. The bar is known for its DJs and drag events.Â
The new Trax is located in a mixed-use building, called Six10 Merritt at The Finery, that is positioned next to the structure housing Diskin Cider.Â
“Once again, we have a lease instead of owning it but at least we landed somewhere,” Kiss says. Â
Kiss, who is not disclosing the cost to have gotten operational, says the new Trax home offers improved parking and additional kitchen space that will allow the bar to expand its menu.Â
“With the Nashville market, things got snapped up. It hasn’t been easy,” he says. “We did a soft opening with very minimal advertising last Sunday and the response has been amazing. It’s a different location, different look, but with everybody back together it’s still the same feel as the old bar.”Â
The Tea Room was previously known as pH Nashville, a cocktail bar that opened in 2019. The bar announced on Facebook in October that it would be transitioning into a special events model with the new name.Â
