On Sunday, Aug. 10, a group of Nashville restaurant owners and creators — all with roots in and connections to Texas — are hosting The Texas Market. These folks will sell their Lone Star State-inspired food and drink to raise money for flood relief efforts in Texas.
Wes Scoggins, aka The Jewish Cowboy, is a Texas native, and after the July 4 floods he wanted to do something for his home state. He looked around and realized how many Texas transplants were cooking up good food in Nashville, so he roped them in on his idea.
Proving that everything is bigger in Texas, including folks' hearts, participating businesses include: Redheaded Stranger, Tio Fun!, Tempo Nashville, Shotgun Willie’s BBQ, Curry Boys BBQ, Primitive Coffee, Third Eye Coffee, Ladybird Taco, Scoggins' own Jewish Cowboy and Jackalope Brewing Co., which is hosting the event.

“Kerr County is less than two hours away from my home in San Antonio, and witnessing the devastation and the impact it has had on so many folks in our community has been unbelievably difficult,” says Sean Wen of Curry Boys. “So participating in this event to support the Kerr County Flood Relief is a reminder that every act of kindness matters, and it’s also just a simple way to show that we care about our neighbors.”
The Texans in Tennessee will offer a selection of eats and drinks, including brisket (what’s a Texas food event without brisket?), tacos, coffee and more for sale. Curry Boys, for example, will make curry queso hot links and a pulled-pork sandwich, topped with lemongrass barbecue sauce and an herb-and-cucumber slaw.
The group has committed to donating at least 25 percent of funds collected to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. In addition to the food, the market will include a musical performance by Bekah Veliz (@bulletsoul), another Texan in Nashville.
The market takes place Sunday, Aug. 10, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Jackalope — 429B Houston St. in Wedgewood-Houston.
