You could don an ugly sweater and head out for a festive beverage every night between now and year’s end and not manage to visit all the themed holiday bars that have hung stockings with care. But seeing as how it is our job, we’ve done our best to check them out and narrow down the selection. This is the first of our 12 Days of Christmas Pop-Ups series. We’ll give you a glittery look at pop-ups worth popping into.
While much of Lower Broad is all about the bright lights outside, Sam Fox’s Pushing Daisies promises a secret little getaway, with no fewer bright lights and no fewer cocktails. Hidden in the basement level of the Fifth + Broadway complex, Pushing Daisies gets its name from the English translation of the word “margarita.” And Pushing Daisies is big on the tequila-based drink.
For the holidays, at what is being called Pushing Poinsettias, there are eight different themed margaritas, plus cocktails, including a whiskey-and-churros drink, which, yes, comes with a side of tiny churros to dunk in your glass. Don Juan’s spiced cider will warm you from the inside out, as will the Buffalo Trace eggnog. The food menu includes tacos, queso and a Sonoran hot dog, which you’ll eat under a ceiling bedecked with ornaments and surrounded with Otomi embroidery stockings.
