Provence Bakery is closing its wholesale operations, as well as the cafes it operates. One of those, its Hillsboro Village location, has been open for more than two decades.
Opened by Terry Carr-Hall in 1996, the bakery was inspired by a summer Carr-Hall spent in the South of France. In addition to the Hillsboro Village cafe and the location adjacent to the Nashville Public Library downtown, Provence also operates the Iris Cafe on the Peabody campus, as well as a wholesale bread operation near the airport. Calls to Provence have not been returned.
The bakery produces bread for a number of restaurants around town, and many of those clients were left scrambling today as they were informed that Friday would be the last day for deliveries. Several bakeries reached by the Scene confirmed that they were contacted by a few Provence clients this week, and then were inundated with calls this morning. An employee at the Peabody location said that cafe was open, but he didn’t know about any changes beyond today.
Since 2009, Carr-Hall has split time between Nashville and Los Angeles.
