Who doesn’t love a good happy hour? Early bird drinkers and diners have some great new options, thanks to additions by two relatively young restaurants on the scene. First up is Henrietta Red, the acclaimed Strategic Hospitality restaurant project helmed by Julia Sullivan and Allie Poindexter. Since opening almost exactly a year ago, Henrietta Red has already built a loyal following for their fun happy hour deals, offering specials on punches and artisan classic cocktail Jell-O shots in the bar Tuesday through Sunday from 5: to 6:30 p.m.
Henrietta Red’s happy hour offerings always include $2 oysters and $5 cava; alongside daily specials:
- Tuesday – 2-for-1 Beers
- Wednesday – $8 House Cocktails
- Thursday – $2 Jell-O Shots
- Friday – $10 Pitchers of Beer
- Saturday – $6 House-Made Punch
- Sunday – Half off a Glass of Sommelier-Selected Red and White Wines
Now they have added a new monthly Taproom Takeover when they will invite some of their favorite producers into the bar 5 to 7 p.m. to showcase their products while the restaurant offers specials on drinks on oyster dishes. "We love working with producers with a similar ethos and vibe,” said Poindexter, Henrietta Red's general manager/co-owner. “These taproom takeovers allow us to highlight them and show what we do best while hosting a fun party!”
Proceeds from the events will benefit the Chefs Cycle Campaign of No Kid Hungry. Chef Sullivan has committed to raising funds by riding her bicycle 300 miles around Northern California over the course of three days, May 15-17. Here’s the schedule of Taproom Takeovers over the next three months:
- Feb. 22 — Jackalope Brewing will be offering an exclusive oyster stout they created using oyster shells from Henrietta Red.
- March 29 — Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery will join in a celebration of co-owner Charlie Nelson’s birthday, complete with cocktails made by bar manager (and The Patterson House veteran) Patrick Halloran.
- April 26 — Lioco Winery completes the series by coming all the way from Santa Rosa, Calif. — conveniently located where Sullivan is to begin her 300-mile ride

Barcelona Wine Bar in Edgehill Village also throws a pretty festive happy hour every weekday from 4 to 6 p.m. They call it Social Hour and feature bite-size pinxtos and slightly larger tapas plates in addition to deals on sherry cocktails. They also have a special deal where any patron who orders a glass of sherry will receive a free choice from the pinxtos list. The bar staff at Barcelona has developed a new Sherry Old Fashioned made with a fortified wine from the city of Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, Spain, so that should be a novel drink to try out.
For more info on this great deal and to see the specific plates available for your snacking pleasure, visit the Barcelona Social Hour Facebook page.
