New East Nashville Restaurant lou Plans Benefit Bake Sale

Chef Mailea Weger’s new East Nashville restaurant and wine bar, lou, has been open for only a couple of months since replacing Fort Louise in the cozy little bungalow at 1304 McGavock Pike, but it hasn’t taken too long for the California-born chef to introduce herself to the new neighborhood. Her innovative brand of California/French hybrid cuisine and menu of fun and funky natural wines has already earned her new fans at her brunch-all-day eatery, and she’s already preparing to give back to her new community.

This Sunday, Oct. 20, Weger will host an autumnal bake sale at lou with proceeds benefiting Thistle Farms, the local organization that provides housing, food, health care, therapy and education to women who have survived trafficking, prostitution and addiction. Weger has invited some friends from near and far to provide the goodies (which will all sell for $5) from noon until 3 p.m. or until they run out of treats. Participating chefs pâtissiers include: lou’s pastry chef, Sasha Piligian; the great Sean Brock; Zöe Kanan, head baker at Studio, George Washington Bar, and Simon & The Whale at The Freehand Hotel in New York; City House Nashville’s pastry chef Rebekah Turshen; chef Julia Jaksic of Café Roze; Folk and Rolf and Daughter’s Sam Short, and many more.

That’s quite a roster of talent that you’ll probably never see assembled again, so I suggest you make your way to lou for some fantastic pastries to help a great cause!
