Earlier this year, we wrote about the issues surrounding culinary training and the staffing difficulties experienced by Nashville’s restaurant scene. Well, how times change. Restaurants are now struggling with how to keep some of their employees working in the face of capacity constraints imposed under Metro’s COVID-19 reopening plan, and nobody is quite sure how much staff will be needed when. But that doesn’t mean there isn't still a need for educational opportunities for the next generation of hospitality professionals entering the field.
That’s where Nashville State Community College and its culinary training program comes in. They have committed to expanding their commitment to load up the service pipeline with recent graduates by offering several different apprentice programs for young hospitality workers to acquire real-life experience in the industry.
If you work for an organization that is interested in learning more about any of these apprenticeship programs or if you have existing employees who might benefit from additional training to help them prepare for the next step in their careers, contact Dina Starks with Nashville State at Dina.Starks@nscc.edu.
The ACF Certified Sous Chef apprenticeship program will launch as part of fall semester beginning on Aug. 17, and applications will begin to be reviewed on July 30. To find out more information or to apply, visit NSCC’s website.
