September will close out with a bang thanks to two upcoming events: one that celebrates Bourbon Heritage Month and another that recognizes a full year in business for an East Nashville eatery. Then October will kick off with another bartender collaboration at Four Walls in The Joseph downtown, this time featuring Cuban cocktails. Read on for the deets!

Oak Bourbon Heritage Dinner

Of course Oak Steakhouse is best known for its premium beef — but its whiskey collection is pretty beefy too. To commemorate the end of Bourbon Heritage Month, the kitchen and the bar are coming together to pair some of the best bottles with the best beef as part of a special Bourbon Heritage Dinner.

Guests will assemble at The Oak on Thursday, Sept. 26, for an opening cocktail at 6 p.m. followed by a four-course dinner accompanied by pairings from beverage director Josh Johnson and executive chef Jordan Arcuri. Among the premium pours will be Knob Creek Single Barrel Select and Uncle Nearest Single Barrel, and Arcuri will feature regional ingredients like Gifford’s Bacon and Kentucky-raised American wagyu beef from Black Hawk Farms.

Tickets for the dinner are $195 and are available at the event website.

Frankie's Block Party

Over in East, Frankies Spuntino is celebrating one year in business with another big block party. On Sunday, Sept. 29, they’ll convert 925 Spuntino, the Pizzeria and the Bodega into a festive progressive party themed after some of Frankies' favorite NYC institutions. After they play the national anthem at 10:45 a.m. (no, really!) Frankies will open the patio at 11 a.m. to welcome guests until 7 p.m.

In a nod to the iconic Katz's Delicatessen, Frankies will be selling house-smoked pastrami sandwiches. An extensive raw bar will emulate the Grand Central Oyster Bar, and the Big Hall at Frankies will emulate Franks Wine Bar with salumi, wine and cheese on offer. Other spaces in the compound will offer pizza, spritzes and desserts for sale at this cashless event. (You can tip in cash, though)

There’s no admission fee, just come hungry and buy as you go.

La Trova

Four Walls, the cozy bar adjacent to The Joseph hotel in SoBro, has announced the next event in its series of visiting bartender collaborations coming up on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 5 p.m. until midnight. Four Walls’ bartenders and the visiting mixologists take inspiration from exhibits at the Frist Art Museum to come up with complementary recipes as part of the series.

For this one-night pop-up, Four Walls has invited Cafe La Trova to visit Music City to serve drinks inspired by the María Magdalena Campos Pons Behold exhibit, where the Vanderbilt Fine Arts professor shares images, videos and paintings that explore her Cuban roots. (More on the exhibit in this week's forthcoming issue of the Scene.)

Cafe La Trova has been recognized as one of the world’s 50 best bars multiple times, and founder Julio Cabrera will be adding Miami and Cuban spice to La Trova’s cocktails for the evening while Four Walls’ lead bartender Mickey Stevenson will offer his own interpretation of Campos Pons’ work.

There are no reservations or cover charges for this walk-in event. Get there early and sample as many of the inspired cocktails as you care to.
