It's a shocker. A mere eight months after opening, Kuchnia & Keller will close in Germantown after Sunday brunch on July 29.
Owner Aaron Clemins announced the closing on the restaurant’s Instagram page.
The looming cessation of operations is the latest in a string of recent restaurant closings citywide, including at least two (Lulu and Cochon Butcher) in the general Germantown area.
Kuchnia & Keller derives its name from the Polish and German words for “kitchen” and "cellar," and the restaurant’s menu highlight influences of those countries and other Eastern European locales. Clemins spent time in Milwaukee and developed an interest in Eastern European cuisine.
The Scene's Chris Chamberlain spoke at length with Clemins in a promising interview before Kuchnia & Keller opened in November. Word-of-mouth about the restaurant was generally good, and Scene contributor Ashley Brantley filed a positive review in April, saying Kuchnia & Keller "lives up to its City House lineage."
Clemins' restaurant operates at 1300 Third Ave. N. from the former Southern Broom & Mop Co. building, which Nashville-based Fresh Hospitality owns.
Here's the text of the Instagram announcement:
To all our Nashville friends + family: We are sad to announce that due to many circumstances, our last service at K & K will be Sunday Brunch, July 29th. We want to thank each and every person who has come in and supported us over the last eight months, and all those people who worked tremendously hard to open our restaurant. We would like to invite you all to come in and grab one last beer, or meal and help us say goodbye to our neighborhood corner bar. Building this restaurant was a dream come true, and we are so glad we were able to share our food and vision with you. We could not have done any of this without all of you. And are truly grateful for the run that we’ve had. Sincerely, Aaron, Christen, Buddy, Erica, Mark, Katie, Lucas and the K + K Staff
