Bon Appétit Magazine today released its list of 50 nominees for best new restaurant in America. It notes that Julia Kramer, BA’s deputy editor, has a mighty task: to "narrow down hundreds of meals in dozens of cities across America to a list of 10." That refers to the final Hot 10 list (which will be announced next week). "That’s why we start by naming our 50 nominees, all of which are worthy of celebration in their own right," the magazine adds.

Happily (and quite rightly), two new Nashville restaurants made the list: Hathorne, the welcoming West Nashville spot from veteran chef John Stephenson, and Tailor, the Germantown spot for Indian-influenced cuisine from supper-club maven Vivek Surti. Both opened near the end of 2018: Hathorne launched in November, Tailor in December.

Both have already secured many enthusiastic fans. (Here's my review of Hathorne and Chris Chamberlain's report on Surti's concept for Tailor.)

For its part, Bon Appétit offers a brief tagline for each nominee. For Tailor, it says: "Where Gujarat meets the Deep South — in dinner party form." For Hathorne, it proclaims: "Where farm-to-table feels fresh as ever." Bon Appétit says the final Hot 10 list will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
