I know it seems like it will never be cool enough to go outside again, but trust me that this current heat wave will break someday. When it does, you’re going to want to get some fresh air after a month of recirculated air conditioning.
Fortunately, The Harpeth Hotel at 130 Second Ave. N. in Franklin is planning ahead for better days (and nights). They’re activating the attractive enclosed patio in the middle of the hotel as the site for two fun upcoming events closer to Labor Day — a Wine Pairing Dinner on Aug. 24 and a Pizza & Spritz demo and instructional class on Aug. 31.
The Wine Pairing Dinner will run from 6 until 9 p.m., starting out with a courtyard reception before retiring to the 1799 Kitchen & Bar Room inside the hotel. Chef Thomas Tuggle has planned a multicourse dinner to pair with wines provided by Andrew Brewer — former professional soccer player and current wine educator — through his company Lessons From the Vine.
Tickets for the evening are $135 plus tax and are available at the event website,
For an even more interactive experience, visit The Harpeth on the last evening of August for a pizza and spritz party under the stars in the courtyard from 6 until 8 p.m. Chef Tuggle will demonstrate how to make pizzas from scratch, from how to prepare different types of doughs to how temperatures affect different doughs, plus he'll provide a hands-on experience on The Big Green Egg. He will also discuss the new pizza menu that 1799 will have at the bar.
And you’ll be able to eat your classroom materials. Even if you’re more interested in socializing than honing your cooking chops, Chef Tuggle will make plenty of pizzas for the back of the classroom, too!
Bar staff from The Harpeth will also provide demos of how to shake up some spritzes, the perfect end-of-summer refreshers. Tickets for the fun night of eating, drinking and education are only $75.
