We’ve written about the efforts Atlanta-based Giving Kitchen has undertaken to aid the restaurant workers of Nashville, and they are always looking for new ways to help out and reach the local food service community. Their latest opportunity comes in the form of a partnership with A Step Ahead Middle Tennessee, a nonprofit that addresses women’s reproductive rights by offering long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) free of charge to food service workers who live in or attend school in any of the following 29 counties: Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, DeKalb, Dickson, Giles, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Moore, Perry, Putnam, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Stewart, Sumner, Trousdale, Wayne, Williamson, Wilson.
For the entire month of February, multiple clinics across Middle Tennessee (including locations in Nashville, Madison, Lebanon, Smyrna and Franklin) will offer eligible participants a free comprehensive birth control consultation (including a pap test, STI test and annual exam) with the option of insertion or removal of a hormonal IUD, non-hormonal IUD and hormonal arm implant. Free transportation to and from appointments can also be scheduled and coordinated through A Step Ahead Middle Tennessee. Services are available in English and Spanish.
