After roughly one year in business, the team behind Choy has announced the Gulch-area Chinese American restaurant’s closure.

From a post on Choy’s Instagram account

On behalf of our entire team and ownership, thank you for making this past year at Choy so special. It’s been an honor to share our take on Chinese American cuisine with Nashville—and every guest who walked through our doors became part of that story.

We’re deeply sad to share that Choy will be closing on July 23rd. Until then, we’d love nothing more than to welcome you back—whether it’s to spend one more happy hour with us, revisit your favorite dish, or simply say goodbye.

Come through. Let’s make these last few weeks count.

Owner Moni Advani and his partner Nishaan Chavda opened Choy in July of last year, with executive chef Brian Griffith helming the kitchen. Advani previously owned the nightclub Anthem, and he partnered with Maneet Chauhan on the acclaimed chef’s restaurants Chauhan and Mockingbird — all establishments in the area sometimes referred to as the North Gulch.

Choy was known for its Peking Duck, and attracted praise during its 12 months in business, including a mention in The New York Times’ “25 Best Restaurants in Nashville Right Now” and a stellar review from Scene restaurant critic Kay West.

“The most-asked question of any food writer covering a city without a Chinatown is this: Where can I get good Chinese food?” West wrote in her April review. “It’s an impossibly subjective question. But if you’re in Nashville, seeking stellar, chef-driven modern interpretations of classic Chinese American, in a sumptuous setting with a sommelier-stocked wine cellar, impeccable service, feet-on-the-floor ownership and Peking Duck, there’s only one answer. Choy for the win.”

The restaurant’s last day will be July 23 — just one week short of Choy’s first anniversary. Choy’s management has not responded to the Scene’s request for further comment as of this writing.
