Fans of Chef Kaelin Ulrich of Bajo Sexto woke up to find this in their Instagram feed this morning:

Is he leaving?

Bites caught up to Ulrich and he confirmed that he's going to do some traveling and stage in some different restaurants.

"I'm just gonna travel around the world a little. Stage in some kitchens around the world. I just want to see what else is out there for now," Ulrich says. "I might come back to Nashville, but for now I'm just going to take a little time to travel and learn some more. Nashville's definitely been good to me, but for now a little bit of travel and find some inspiration as a chef, you know?"

Given that he's a chef still in his early 20s, it's understandable that Ulrich wants to expand his horizons a bit.

Ulrich has been running Jonathan Waxman's Bajo Sexto locations here in Nashville, but he's also been burnishing his reputation as an up-and-coming chef. In our recent survey of Nashville restaurant professionals, Ulrich was named "Most Underrated Chef." He won the traveling Cochon555 competition in February, too.

Here's hoping he ends up back in Nashville. The Oaxacan dishes on Bajo Sexto's menu were some of the best bites we've had in the last year.
