When a restaurant is as popular and beloved as Josh Habiger’s Bastion is in this community, they usually don’t have to do much to fill the house. That’s why you’ll probably never see a billboard for Kase x Noko or discover a Groupon for Locust. (Yes, Groupon does still exist!)
While I’m not reporting anything here, I do imagine that between the insane popularity of Pastis since its recent opening and the sheer difficulty of navigating the massive construction zone that is Wedgewood-Houston, Bastion might be looking to bump up business a little bit. Or heck, maybe they’re just wanting to have some fun in the middle of the August doldrums.
From bouillabaisse to boeuf Bourguignon, a new Wedgewood-Houston spot is bringing bistro buzz to Nashville
Whatever the reason, they’re planning a few interesting events and specials during the next month, and I strongly encourage you to consider them. Kicking off with tonight, Aug. 6, when Bastion (the restaurant) is popping up for one night only inside Bastion (the Big Bar). It's is your lucky day, because the food and drink staff of the acclaimed restaurant will step through that sliding door to share their talents with those of us who frequent the bar.
I mean, those nachos are awesome, and the happy hour beer deals and cocktails are definitely a worthy draw, but the chance to order à la carte as the kitchen team riffs on the restaurant menu is pretty special. Plus, wine director Eric Bowers will be digging into the cellar for some fun pours at the bar.
No reservations are required or accepted for The Big Bar, so check out the menu on Bastion’s Instagram to get ready for a fun evening from 5:30 until 8:30, or until they sell out of everything!
In other Bastion news, they recently launched a new cocktail menu, and I’d stack it up against any place in town. (Except for that damned Malört drink. That’s just mean, Josh!) Combine that menu with a Monday-through-Friday happy hour from 5 until 7 p.m. and validated parking in the lot at Pillow and Houston streets, and you definitely need to drop by for a visit sometime soon if you don’t make it in tonight.
