Bacco Steak

Bacco steak

After a multimillion-dollar renovation, the former Mimo space on the ground floor of the tony Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences at 100 Demonbreun St. will officially reopen as Bacco, a modern interpretation of a Tuscan steakhouse. Inspired by the wines and culinary traditions of Tuscany, the name of the new restaurant is an ode to Bacchus, the Roman god of wine. (Bacco is decidedly not a nod to Snus, the smokeless tobacco pouches that now litter Lower Broad as the lightweight drug of choice for Bro Country fans.)

Indeed, this will be an extremely classy space, with more than 8,000 square feet of dining room, bar, lounge and an Italian Riviera-inspired outer terraza to offer choices of dining style. The dramatic central bar and lounge should become a gathering point for hotel guests, residents and diners, and I imagine I’ll want a table with a view of the open kitchen and the dry-aging cabinet where I hope to spy Flintstones-size porterhouses dry aging to eventually become my favorite Tuscan dish ever, Bistecca alla Fiorentina.

The official announcement of the opening date promises a menu that “celebrates the bold flavors and seasonal ingredients of Italian cuisine, with a focus on premium steaks, house-made pastas, and vibrant antipasti.” I like all of those things!

Expected menu highlights include a spicy nduja pasta dish called Gnocchetti Sardi, whole Branzino fish broiled with tomatoes and Sicilian fennel butter, and Braised Lamb Belly with cannellini bean and pickled onion salad. Bacco’s bar program features a curated Italian wine list and cocktails that strive to combine Italian traditions with more modern mixology trends. I’m looking forward to celebrating aperitivo hour at that bar.

Bacco will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. Reservations are now open on Open Table, so get a jump if you want to be one of the first to experience this new addition to SoBro.
