It’s a great month for lovers of Italian food in Nashville. All September, Amerigo is commemorating 35 years of operation on West End. In today’s environment, a restaurant that makes it 10 years can be called a stalwart, so 35 years in that busy corridor is quite an achievement — one that ownership is proud of.

“Being part of Nashville’s West End for 35 years is an honor we don’t take lightly,” says Doug Hogrefe, partner at 4Top Hospitality. “So much has changed around us over the years, but Amerigo has remained a place where generations of guests gather, celebrate and make memories. To have served as a fixture in Nashville for more than three decades is something we’re incredibly proud of, and we’re grateful for everyone who has made Amerigo part of their family traditions.”

As part of the celebration, Amerigo is rolling out a menu of some fan favorites from time of yore, including tomato and Mozzarella basilico, pollo salad, goat cheese and penne, straw and hay pasta and much more. To pair with your meal, they are also offering three Italian wines for $35 a bottle.

Additionally, on Tuesday, Sept. 22, guests are invited to a four-course wine dinner featuring the wines of Ruffino Estates. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the dinner will offer a quartet of paired wines and dinner courses, featuring bruschetta, pan-seared duck breast, sausage ragu over bucatini, and chocolate tiramisu. Nashville Scene Pizza Week

In more delicious Italian news, it’s time for the Scene's Pizza Week. From Sept. 14 to 20, more than 30 restaurants will vie for your vote as best pie in Nashville by offering $12 specials on specific pizzas that they are especially proud of.

There are some heavy hitters participating this year, from old reliables like DeSano’s, Dicey's and Slim & Husky’s, but there are also some notable newcomers like Il Forno, Slice House and Frankies. Then there are the unexpected options, ranging from Chief’s on Lower Broad to Taco Bamba in Green Hills.

One collaboration that particularly intrigues me is the entry from Nicky’s Coal Fired. Tony Galzin is reaching across the street to his neighbor at Bringle’s Smoking Oasis to help create the Nicky’s x Bringle’s BBQ Brisket Pizza, a pie topped with white sauce, mozzarella (smoked and unsmoked), slow-smoked brisket, pickled onions and peppers, and tangy barbecue sauce. Yeah, I’ll be having one of those!

You know the drill by now. Download the app, which is so useful for plotting your course and checking out the menus. Visit as many venues as you want to during the week or order takeout or delivery where available, tip generously and please be patient as things can get crazy. At the end of the week, vote for best overall pizza, best traditional pizza and most creative pizza and congratulate yourself on a week well-done!
