The only thing better than having your own pool is having a friendly next-door neighbor who’s out of town on weekends and doesn’t mind if you swim at their pool with your friends. Like boat ownership, the maintenance involved in operating your own pool is rarely worth the enjoyment. So how cool is it that the Cambria Hotel downtown at 118 Eighth Ave. S. is welcoming locals to take advantage of their pool area on Sundays 2 to 6 p.m., beginning on May 12.
This Sunday Funday promotion is aimed at adults, so leave the kiddies at home. Anyway, the young ones would be ticked off if you told them they couldn’t have those frozen pops because they are full of booze, courtesy of FrutaPOP, the adult popsicle company. The pool bar will serve specialty cocktails and shots along with featured beverages from pop-up partnerships with local breweries and distilleries.
The music will be pumping, and Cambria staff will lead the crowd in games and contests for prizes while cocktail servers circulate selling specialty shots. (You see what I mean about not for kids?) Foosball and cornhole will also be available for only slightly more active pursuits poolside.
I don’t know about y’all, but I’ve been kicked out of more than one hotel and apartment for trying to sneak into the pool, so this is a welcome development. "The concept is to create a place for locals to visit each week. We want this to be your local bar, but with a pool," says Bobby Smith, director of sales and marketing. Invitation accepted, Mr. Smith!
