It's a Wonderful Life
When: 2, 5 and 8 p.m. Dec. 23-24
Where: The Belcourt
Expect a packed house and even more tears than usual at the last night of The Belcourt’s annual run of the Frank Capra Christmas classic. On Friday, the theater closes for six months of renovation — which essentially means Nashville cinephiles go to bed tonight in Bedford Falls and wake up to a half-year of Potterville.
Now, now, it’s not that bad: The theater plans pop-ups at venues across the city during its downtime, and at the very least there’ll be James Cathcart’s monthly Belcourt-sponsored Light and Sound Machine screenings at Third Man Records. (We’ve heard at least one of the lineups, and it’s amazing.)
But after the impassioned, energized discussions that followed last week’s marathon screening of Jacques Rivette’s 13-hour Out 1 and Spike Lee’s incendiary Chi-Raq, regulars looked at each other in sad recognition that such moments will go on hold for now ... or will they? Check out the Facebook group Belcourt Withdrawal Society for support. Auld acquaintances will most definitely not be forgot.
