That thud you just heard was the ratings news for the latest schock-TV production involving Nashville
Last night's premiere of Private Lives of Nashville Wives pulled a 2.3 rating locally, with gradually declining viewership throughout the hour. The quarter-hour splits were 2.6, 2.3, 2.4, 1.7, which means that it lost about 45 percent of the audience over the course of an hour — not good news for a debut. Nationally, the numbers were literally off the charts: It didn't rank among the top 100 shows on cable Monday.
Its lede-in, Dallas, pulled a .7 nationally, so it's not like the show had much to work with. Also making things difficult is the fact that TNT is not known as a destination for reality programming. But if the show can't beat any of the shows in that time period — Basketball Wives (VH1), Criptid: The Swamp Beast (History), South Park (Comedy Central), a House Hunters rerun (HGTV) and the show it's ripping off, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (Bravo) — it will likely move or be dumped.
The tanking is just as spectacular as Crazy Hearts on A&E last month, which took a 4.6 from its Duck Dynasty lede-in and turned it into a 1.5 by the end of the hour. Crazy Hearts, by the way, was yanked from prime time and left to die in a Saturday at 1 p.m. time slot. (Repeated efforts to reach A&E's publicists have failed, which means it's as good as canceled. They only call back when they've got good news or want you to write something nice.)
But somebody in the production company thinks they're getting a second season of Private Lives.
A casting director for Evolution Media put out a call for prospective "wives" today. The details are after the jump:

We'll put that through the Reality TV Translation Machine for you:
— Blond is better
— We're going to talk about your sex life
— We'd like it if you had enough pull to get some free attention for us
— Poors and Middles need not apply
— We only take pictures of pretty things because we're shallow
— Must be willing to say inflammatory things on camera (we'll provide the booze).
And, we'd remind you that you should ask yourself a few questions before submitting yourself to the vagaries of reality television.
