As COVID-19 infections continue to rise across the state — by 15 percent in the past two weeks — it is increasingly hard to feel hopeful. But I take comfort in the words of Dolly Parton from her pandemic-era song "When Life Is Good Again": "We'll make it through this long, dark night / Darkness fades when faced with light / But everything's gonna be all right / When life is good again."
Not long after the pandemic started, Nashville Pride announced that it would delay its annual Pride celebration and parade until the fall, instead hosting a month of virtual events in June. Fall is upon us, and the organization has reassessed its plan and opted to keep the LGBTQ community safe. Late last week, the nonprofit announced that Pride will take place Sept. 11-12, 2021, at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park.
Alex Fortney, president of Nashville Pride, stated in the press release: “The increase in festival attendance over the past several years has been nothing short of inspiring. We are confident that the move to Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park will give us a more comfortable space that will allow for our continued growth in a safe and measured way.”
And since this is a post about Pride and we all need a little sunshine, here's Dolly's new video for "When Life Is Good Again."
