Nashville Ballet opens its 2008-9 season with a double bill, the signature piece of which is based on the well-known Tennessee ghost story. The Bell Witch features an original folk score by noted Nashville composer/arranger Conni Ellisor. Ann Marie DeAngelo's choreography mixes classical, modern and hip-hop movement to get at the supernatural forces afoot, plus special visual effects are in place that are enhanced by wearing 3D glasses. The company will also perform The Four Temperaments set to the music of German neoclassicist innovator Paul Hindemith. George Balanchine's ingenious choreography explores the ancient belief that personality is determined by the body's four humors—melancholic, sanguine, phlegmatic and choleric—with each temperament associated with the four classical elements of earth, air, water and fire. Accompaniment by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
