Ten Years of YK Records Feat. Hotpipes, Fetching Pails, Black Bra & more

Hotpipes

Strange but true: Nashvillian Michael Eades launched his independent label YK Records, a very special kind of booster for local music, a full decade ago. Many of the label’s releases are by outstanding pop and/or rock musicians who don’t play full time. Just being included in a well-curated collection of music where careful attention to presentation is paid prevents their phenomenal work from getting lost in the ether. Eight of those acts will celebrate the milestone anniversary by alternating between stages at Mercy Lounge and The High Watt on Saturday, and the show will feature longtime local-music veterans in configurations old and new. Some have releases you might have owned for years already — see anthem purveyors Hotpipes and post-punkers Tower Defense. Several others have only recently released their debut recordings, like post-Beach Boys rockers New Man, mystical pop outfit The Mute Group, dreamy pop group Fetching Pails, makers of ’70s-schooled guitar-pop The Medium and krautrock/synth-pop duo The Robe. And some haven’t even released music yet, like Black Bra, featuring Forget Cassettes’ Beth Cameron. 7 p.m. at Mercy Lounge, 1 Cannery Row STEPHEN TRAGESER
