Son Little w/Christopher Paul Stelling

Son Little is incredibly good at making a kind of future-soul music that feels closely connected to the genre’s history. The Philadelphia musician is taking a bit of a turn on aloha, his third studio album, set for release via ANTI- on Jan. 31. It’s not a drastic shift, and there’s a great deal of his trademark feel in “hey rose,” the album opener and lead single (which also appears on an EP called invisible that he released in September). But for the first time, he has let someone else take the producer’s chair. That would be French producer Renaud Letang, whose work you’ve heard on albums by Feist, Amadou & Mariam and Peter Gabriel, among others. You can hear it in person on Tuesday, well before the album is out. Little’s labelmate Christopher Paul Stelling, a New Yorker whose gospel-schooled forthcoming album Best of Luck was produced by Ben Harper, will open the show. 8 p.m. at 3rd and Lindsley, 818 Third Ave. S.
